Tribute

Irving Penn 1917 – 2009

Well Friends, We all lost a genius today. Legendary photographer Irving Penn died today at age 92. I have to say, I’m pretty bummed about his passing. I feel like the number of Old Great Artists like him keep dwindling down. He is one of my all time favorite photographers…a true inspiration… I mean, he was still working in his 90’s! So awesome! Shoot! He is so, so, so amazing! I just hope we (young artists) can take the baton and inspire the world like Irving has. As a Tribute to him, I thought I’d share these two paintings today. The first painting is an old picture of Irving Penn in the the military. The second one is of the Nude Portrait he did of Kate Moss. I really tried to do the painting in a way that would do justice to Irving’s incredible Black & Whites. I hope you like the pictures. If you haven’t seen Irving Penn’s work, please look it up. You will be a fan!

Happy Birthday Stacy!

Hello Friends! Well, I’m pleased to say, it’s my good friend Miss Stacy king‘s Birthday. She turns the big 21 today! woot woot! So i thought a “Queen Stacy” portrait was in order. If you all aren’t familiar with her, she’s a singer and writer of the band Eisley. If you don’t know them click here to check out and enjoy! Also, Stacy, Sophie Ward, and I are working together on a Collaboration Project called “The Siren Who Loved“. Basically, the project is the coolest thing i have worked on by far! Well, my friends, hope you’re having a great day. I hope you like the picture. :) P.S. On a side note, the dress Stacy is wearing in the the picture i drew, is one of the first dresses i have ever designed and sewed! haha! Wow, like 4-5 years ago ;)

Hide & Sea

Hello, my friends! How was your day? Spent a good amount of the day drawing. But i ended up doing another collage for you all :) I really like how it turned out. It’s kinda trippy looking, and also kinda reminds me of the first Romeo & Juliet painting i did a month back. I saw this image of the picture of the girl covering her eyes, on the Dream walking Society, and thought it was amazing!! i love it :) The picture seriously makes me want to play Hide and Go Seek so bad! When was the last time you played that game?! I think I might need to organize a large Hide-N-Seek game in the near future… :) Well, i hope you’re having a great day! :) P.S. The other day, some of you on Twitter, asked me to post some of the songs i wrote…. thought i would post a little song i wrote a little while back… It’s just a simple piano song… I hope you like it :)

Artist Danny Roberts documentary Sketch during Gerlan Jeans collection spring 2010

NYC Sep 13, 2009

Gerlan Jeans – Waiting outside the the Audi Forum, my brother and I had a pleasant surprise. A flash of red hair caught my eye, and I quickly realized that it was Julia Frakes of Bunny Bisous! There, chatting with her, was none other than Susie Lau of Style Bubble! Danny approached them cautiously, as he had done portraits of both of them, conversed with them online, but had never met either of them in person. After conveying his identity to them, hugs were exchanged. Once through the doors, we checked in and tracked down our seats. The collection delivered an urban overtone utilizing grey and white prints of broken brick walls, pink and white prints of clenched fists, and pot leaves. These made their way on to various garments ranging from overalls, to swimwear, to hoodies, and even underwear. All in all, it was a fun event and we were so glad to have met Susie and Julia!” P.S. Our family cat Milo has a hurt foot, and there is a little girl who lives in the house next to us who is in love with Milo. So, today she came over and gave Milo a “Get Well” Card she made him. It is pretty much the most amazing thing ever!

Lily & Gemma Book Drawing 100

Wow! Today went by quicker and longer than i expected. You know those kind of days? Well, i just had one of them. Spent the day drawing and catching up on work and emails. Also, spent a little time looking through some of the NYFW shows i didn’t go to… I have to say, i sure wish i had gone the Rodarte show! I mean, wow! They busted out the sharpie and went to town! haha The Collection is so awesome! It looked like some of the hair and make up was inspired by Tavi’s amazing Borders & Frontiers shirt ;) Well, tonight i present you with Drawing 100 which is the last drawing out of Volume one of “The Character Sketchbook“. It’s a couple years old now… but it’s always fun looking through that book… I really hope you like it! :) P.S. I picked up my artwork from the art show tonight. I was like a kid in a candy store to have all the framed pieces back home.
