Hey, Friends!
Happy Inspiration Friday!
Been working hard on a pretty cool project that I can’t talk about yet, but will be able too soon enough. Right now it’s raining out side, and a cool breeze is drifting in the room and it feels amazing. Some of my favorite weather. While preparing this week’s Inspiration Friday post, I discovered an amazing landscape painter named Philip Govedare. Check him out! He’s really incredible. Well, I hope you have an inspired day! :) p.s. Did you like the first Dave’s Pick?

Daves Pick

Ride the Wave

Hello, everyone! So Danny asked me to try something new: Pick an image each week and share it with you all. This here is my first shot at it. I picked this one for a few reasons. One, it is just really stunning the way the blue pops off of the black backdrop. Two, I love surfing and as you can see, the girl’s hair becomes a fun looking wave with a little surfer cruising in it. I hope you like it as much as I do. :)

Volume 2

Character Sketchbook 135

Hey Friends~
Tonight I was digging through my old Character Sketchbook drawings and it made me nostalgic. It made me miss doodling in that book all day and everyday. That was one of the my favorite projects that i have worked on. I need to start up again on Volume 3. Today’s Drawing was inspired from Vogue Paris February 2005 Baby Doll Diva. If you don’t know know what the character sketch book is you can read up about it Here. Also I’ve been wanting to do some fashion photography lately, and have been thinking about shooting some editorials. Hopefully I can get that going soon. :)

Book update: 277 pages written and half way through chapter 12! :)

Layer Art

Lovers of the Sea Layered Art

A few days ago, I posted a snap shot of this layered art piece on Instragram. Someone had asked me to post detailed pictures of it, so i thought i would post it today. I built this piece a few years back. I was experimenting with building layered art and taking pictures of it to give it a depth of field. Well, that was the initial concept at least. Anyways, this layered piece was inspired mainly by Jessica Stam in Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2007. The piece was built out of cardboard, watercolor paper, wood, and form core. The parting in the clouds is backed by plexiglass that i misted with white spray paint, so that i could put lighting behind it and make it look like the sky is glowing. The drawing materials were pens, chalk pastel, watercolor, and acrylic paint. It is currently hanging in my studio. ;) I hope you like it :)

Polina Kouklina Study Sketch

Well, it’s been a lazy Sunday afternoon. I spent the morning writing and working on the book. Hoping to wrap up Chapter 11 out of 20 today. Last week, got in 2 chapters in 7 days which was the fastest we have ever done. So we are getting there. Wow, it is a long process, but i’ve been enjoying it. David’s out front right now washing his car with his girl friend Kristie, and I was just working on planning out this week. I thought i would post this super rough study sketch i did a few weeks back of model Polina Kouklina. It’s pretty raw, but i hope you like it. :) Now i think it’s time to go jump in the pool!

In the Realm of the Unreal

Hey Friends!
Happy belated 4th for you who celebrate the 4th of July. And thank you for your kind comments on the video. You’re really too kind :) I was cruising around on tumblr yesterday and stumbled on to a site who had posted this picture. I seriously had completely forgotten about this experiment in the realm of 3d modeling and digital painting. It turned out so crazy. I really like it. The picture was inspired from the Marchesa Fall 2011 Collection. I really enjoy Marchesa’s collections. I always picture the royal family in our storybooks wearing Marchesa. I hope you like it, and hope you’re having an amazing day.

Book update: David and I are up to 235 pages written so far. We are on chapter 11 and just passed the half way point on the rough draft. I can’t wait for you all to read it :)

Anna Lund in motion

Well my friends, I hope you liked yesterday’s picture, and I hope you enjoyed the interview with Anna Lund. After the first day of working on the picture, I realized I should be filming the process. So luckily, it’s not too far into the picture when the video starts, but sorry it’s not the full drawing process. I hope you like it :)

Newcomer Portrait Series

Anna Lund Interview

Wow, i’m beyond tired. The concert yesterday was amazing and seeing Sean & my friend Ryan was really awesome, but we didn’t get home till 3am. We only got 3 – 4 hours of sleep. Well you know, a few weeks ago i was saying we wanted to do interviews as part of our Newcomer Portrait Series. I’m happy to say, we got our first interview in the series. I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know IMG model Anna L. over the last few weeks. We really think she has a great career ahead of her. She’s from Denmark, but is currently visiting New York. For this picture, I used mainly color pencil, watercolor, and pen on illustration board. I really like how it turned out. I was trying to capture her fun youthful spirit. I really hope you like it and hope you enjoy the interview
;)

Pancakes with Caramel Ben and Jerry's, no doubt.

Friends Portrait

Sean Cimino Free Mago

Hey friends! David and I are currently in the car heading down to LA to see our friend, Sean Cimino, play in his band Foster the People. He plays guitar and a bunch of other instruments in the band. Sean has been one our best friends since we were in kindergarten. Now a days, with Foster the People doing so well and touring so much, it means we don’t get to see as much of him. But it also makes the times we do get to hang even more special. I thought I would surprise him with a portrait. I hope you like it! :)
