Drawing Number 1 in the Character Sketchbook of Lily Cole by artist Danny Roberts

The Lily and Gemma book

Character Sketchbook 1

We all have to start somewhere. For me, this is where I started. On October 30, 2006, I decided that drawing was something I really wanted to learn how to do. I’ve always loved doodling on paper and coloring growing up. I was never the best artist in the class. Almost 12 years ago to the day, I began drawing Lily Cole and Gemma Ward everyday, since I had the most fun drawing them. All I can say is I’m so glad that I did. I got to experience some incredible things just because I decided not to give up and chose not to get discouraged. Giving up is the easiest thing to do, but like my dad told me my freshman year in high school, “If you give up now, it will be that much easier to give up on the next thing, and the next thing.” There have been so many times where I’ve lost my confidence, or been frustrated with my drawing ability. That combined with the frustrating financial rollercoaster that comes as a result of working as an artist, there have been moments that I have considered giving up… But this journey has been too amazing, and sharing it with you all has been life-changing. Thanks you so much.

p.s. Over the last few weeks, I finally got organized, where I am going to be blogging every weekday, Monday – Friday at 5pm pst. It’s my dream to create an amazing blogging community once again. If you can share with someone you think would love Igor + André, that would be incredible.

Awe the Memories…

Hi everyone!
How are you?!
I am super tired. My brother David and I were working on a project all day. It was kind of brutal.
Today’s picture is number 51 from my Character Sketchbook.
I drew this back in 2006 right when i was first learning how to draw.
I know it’s a bit of a blast from the past, but I hope you like it.
You may recognize the guy in the picture. Haha : )

First Ink Painting CSB 45

I was looking through Volume 1 of my Character Sketchbook, and i just had to post it. It’s actually my first ink painting i had ever done. It was the 45th picture in the series and the picture of Gemma Ward just looked like it should be painted. I don’t know why i love this series so much. It’s pretty raw and they aren’t my best drawings, but for some reason it’s one of my most favorite projects i’ve done. I really want to start working on Volume 3 now. Well, i hope you like it! Oh, also if you have questions for the video question and answer with me and my brother, please ask it ;) Hope you’re having a great night!

Crossing the Dragon Gap

Well, the drawing today is from my “Character Sketch Book” which i started right when i really started drawing…Which was 4 years ago. So weird to think i’ve only really been drawing constantly for 4 years. It seems so long ago. haha. Well, the Phrase “Crossing the Dragon Gap” refers to traveling into the unknown, because in the olden days map makers would draw dragons in places no one had traveled. Well, learning how to draw was the first real dragon gap i had crossed… And as i set goals for this next year, and mapped out my dreams for the year, Looks like i will have to cross another “Dragon Gap”. I’m a little nervous/anxious, but I’m also so painfully excited to share the journey with you all. Needless to say, this Image is perfect for expressing what I’m feeling right now ;) Random story….I Drew this in the bleachers of a wrestling tournament when i was couching wrestling with my dad. :)

The 6th Character Sketch

OOOOOh ok so, I ♥ Saturday’s! hahah How’s your day going? Been having a relaxing day with my family. I had an idea today for a posting series I’m going to start… Since i’ve only been able to draw for about 3-4 years, I thought i would start a weekly post called Remember When. It’s going to consist of drawings that i did back when i was starting to learn how to draw. Thought it could be a cool/fun way to encourage you all that if you like something and want to learn something, With some hard work, you can do anything. :) The drawing today was my 6th drawing ever of Gemma Ward that i did 4 years ago. It’s from Volume 1 of my Character Sketchbook. If you don’t know about my Character Sketchbook i have some info on it here. ;) I hope you like it. Hope you’re having a wonderful Saturday!

Scheduling everything is way tougher than one would think. Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend! :)

Blowing in the Wind

hey, my friends. I just got back from L.A. My sister and her architecture firm participated in “Canstruction L.A.” which is a can foods fundraiser for the L.A. food bank, where they fundraise to buy can foods and they build amazing displays/structures out of the cans! My sis’s display won “Best Use of Labels”. It was incredible! So Genius! She did such an amazing job. :) I took alot of pictures i’m going to try to post on my image diary tomorrow. Also, my new video is going to make its debut tomorrow! I’m really excited cause this video was kinda brutal to make, but i think it is the best one yet :) The painting today is Volume 1 of my Character Sketchbook. I actually think this was my first Sketch with ink ever. It’s of Lily Cole. I hope you like it! :)
